MOLD FUNDAMENTALS
How Glass Bottle Molds Work
A glass bottle mold is a precision-engineered metal cavity that determines every aspect of a bottle's final form -- its silhouette, wall thickness, base weight, neck diameter, and surface texture. Molten glass at approximately 1,050 °C is either blown or pressed into the mold cavity under controlled pressure, taking its exact shape within seconds.
The mold consists of two halves (the blank mold and the blow mold), a bottom plate, and a neck ring. Each component is machined to micron-level tolerances from cast iron or aluminum alloy to withstand thousands of thermal cycles without deformation.
Because every design decision lives in the mold, investing in a high-quality mold is the single most important step toward a premium, consistent bottle. Our in-house CNC workshop ensures you own a mold built to last -- not a shortcut.

MOLD TYPES
Two Core Forming Methods
Blow-Blow Process
Used for narrow-neck perfume and fragrance bottles. A gob of molten glass is first pre-blown into a parison (blank), then transferred to the blow mold where final air pressure forms the precise bottle shape. Ideal for tall, slender silhouettes with complex curves.
- -- Best for: perfume bottles, reed diffuser bottles
- -- Neck diameter: typically 13-28 mm
- -- Wall uniformity: excellent
Press-Blow Process
A metal plunger presses molten glass into the blank mold to form the parison, which is then blown to final shape. This method produces thicker, heavier bases -- the hallmark of luxury cosmetic jars, candle vessels, and cream pots with a premium hand feel.
- -- Best for: cream jars, candle vessels, wide-mouth containers
- -- Base weight: heavier, more luxurious
- -- Wall thickness: more controllable
WORKSHOP CAPABILITIES
Our In-House Mold Workshop
Every mold we use is designed and manufactured in our own facility -- giving us complete quality control, faster iteration, and lower cost for our clients.

CNC Machining Centers
Multi-axis CNC centers capable of machining complex 3D mold cavities to ±0.05 mm tolerance. Suitable for both cast iron and aluminum alloy molds.
Laser Engraving Machines
High-precision laser systems engrave logos, patterns, text, and micro-textures directly into mold surfaces -- transferred perfectly to every bottle produced.
Mold Polishing Station
Mirror-finish polishing of mold cavities ensures crystal-clear glass surfaces with no seam marks. Critical for high-white and crystal-white glass quality.
Mold Inspection & QC
Each finished mold undergoes dimensional verification, cavity surface inspection, and trial production before release -- ensuring the first bottle batch meets spec.
Mold Storage & Maintenance
Client molds are catalogued, stored, and maintained in our facility for repeat orders. Mold life typically exceeds 500,000 cycles with proper maintenance.
3D Design & Modeling
Our design team converts your sketch, reference image, or concept into production-ready 3D CAD files and mold drawings -- included as part of our custom service.
STEP BY STEP
The Mold Manufacturing Process
From your idea to a production-ready mold -- every step is handled in-house, giving you speed, transparency, and quality assurance.

Design Consultation & 2D Drawing
We begin by understanding your bottle concept -- shape, capacity, neck diameter, wall thickness, base weight, and any logo or texture requirements. Our design team produces detailed 2D technical drawings with all critical dimensions, which you review and approve before any machining begins.
Timeline: 3-5 days
3D Modeling & Mold Engineering
Approved drawings are converted into precise 3D CAD models. Our mold engineers then design the full mold assembly -- blank mold, blow mold, neck ring, bottom plate -- accounting for glass shrinkage rates, parting lines, and venting. The 3D model is shared with you for final confirmation.
Timeline: 5-7 days

CNC Mold Machining
CNC programs are generated directly from the 3D model and loaded into our machining centers. The mold cavity is cut from high-grade cast iron or aluminum alloy with ±0.05 mm precision. Logo engravings and surface textures are added using our laser engraving system. All components are then hand-polished to achieve the required surface finish.
Timeline: 10-15 days
Trial Production & Sample Approval
The finished mold is installed on our glass production line for trial runs. Initial samples are measured against the approved drawings and inspected for wall uniformity, seam visibility, base flatness, and neck thread accuracy. We make any necessary mold adjustments before sending samples to you for approval.
Timeline: 5-7 days

Mass Production & Delivery
Once samples are approved, we proceed to mass production. Your mold is stored in our facility for all future orders -- no re-tooling costs for repeat purchases. Surface finishing, accessory assembly, quality inspection, and export packaging are all completed in-house before shipment.
Timeline: 20-35 days (depending on quantity)

FAQ
Common Questions About Custom Molds
Who owns the mold after it is made?
The mold is 100% your intellectual property once the mold fee is paid. We store and maintain it in our facility at no extra charge for the duration of our business relationship. If you ever wish to transfer the mold, we will prepare it for safe shipping.
How long does it take to make a custom mold?
The complete mold development process -- from design confirmation to sample approval -- typically takes 25-35 days. Simple round or square designs may be completed in 20 days. Complex sculptural or multi-component molds may require up to 45 days. We provide a detailed schedule at project start.
What is the minimum order quantity for custom bottles?
For custom mold orders, the typical MOQ is 3,000-5,000 pieces per design per color. For in-stock standard mold bottles, MOQ starts from 500 pieces. We are flexible for initial trial orders and can discuss your specific volume requirements.
Can I modify a mold design after production has started?
Minor adjustments (such as removing material to increase volume, or adjusting neck dimensions) can often be made to an existing mold at a lower cost than making a new one. Major shape changes typically require a new mold. This is why we invest heavily in the 3D approval stage -- to catch and resolve any issues before machining begins.
Do you provide NDA / confidentiality for custom designs?
Yes. We sign Non-Disclosure Agreements before reviewing any proprietary design files. Your bottle shape, design drawings, and brand identity are kept strictly confidential. We never share or replicate client-owned designs for other customers.
What information do I need to provide to start a custom mold project?
To begin, we need: your desired bottle capacity (ml), approximate dimensions (height × width), neck type (spray pump, roller, cap), intended glass material (high-white or crystal-white), any reference images or sketches, and your target annual volume. Even rough sketches are a valid starting point -- our design team handles the rest.
